Monitoring of local elections 2020: VOLYN region

  • The results of the survey conducted by Rating Group during September 10–14 among residents of the Volyn region showed that 41% of respondents often follow political news in Ukraine. 26% do so sometimes, 22% rarely, and only 12% are not interested in politics at all. Political events in the region are often followed by 30%, sometimes by 30%, rarely by 27%, and 13% are not interested at all. A relatively higher level of interest in political news is observed among older respondents, men, and residents of the regional center.
  • 69% said that they will definitely take part in the local elections, about 20% are hesitant about whether to participate, and 10% say it is unlikely that they will vote. Voter mobilization is higher among the older population.
  • The leader in the party rating for the regional council is the party “For the Future,” which is supported by 37.8% among those who will vote and have decided on their choice. 12% intend to vote for the “Servant of the People” party, 11.7% for the “European Solidarity” party, and 9.9% for the “Batkivshchyna” party. At the threshold of passing the barrier are the Radical Party with a rating of 5.4% and “Svoboda” with 4.3%. The ratings of other parties are below 4%. About 18% have not decided on their choice.
  • In the rating for the city council, the party “For the Future” is leading with a rating of 30.4% among those who will vote and have decided on their choice. Next is “European Solidarity,” supported by 14.7%, the civic movement “Svidomi” with 13.8%, the “Servant of the People” party with 9.1%, “Svoboda” with 6.4%, and “Batkivshchyna” with 6.2%. The ratings of other political forces are below 4%. About 13% have not decided.
  • Among mayoral candidates, the leader is Ihor Polishchuk from the party “For the Future,” with 39.5% among those who will vote and have decided on their choice. 10.7% are ready to support Roman Bondaruk from the “Servant of the People” party, 10.5% Yuliia Vusenko from the “European Solidarity” party, 9.9% Bohdan Shyba from the “Holos” party, and 9.1% Alla Natochii from the “Svidomi” movement. 4.9% intend to support Mykola Fedyk from the “Svoboda” party, and 4.5% Iryna Chebeliuk from the “Batkivshchyna” party. About 18–19% of respondents have not decided whom they will vote for.

Methodology

  • Audience: residents of the Volyn region aged 18 and older. The sample is representative by age and gender.
  • Sample size: 1600 respondents (margin of error not more than 2.4%), including 638 respondents in the regional center (margin of error not more than 3.9%).
  • Survey method: face-to-face formalized interview.
  • Fieldwork dates: September 10–14, 2020.
